Samara Weaving Reportedly Cast As Emma Frost In Marvel’s X-men Reboot

The Ready or Not and Scream VI actor is reported to have secured the role of telepathic mutant Emma Frost, although Marvel Studios has yet to confirm the casting publicly.

Samara Weaving is reportedly set to play Emma Frost in Marvel Studios’ forthcoming X-Men film, becoming one of the first performers linked to the new generation of mutants being developed for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Deadline reported on 31 July 2026 that Weaving had been chosen after director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige met several candidates. Variety subsequently reported the casting, while Gizmodo said Marvel had not provided an official comment or confirmation.

The lack of a studio announcement means the casting should still be treated as trade reporting rather than a formally confirmed Marvel reveal. Representatives for Weaving and Marvel were also approached for comment by Entertainment Weekly following the report.

Weaving is best known for leading the horror-comedy Ready or Not and appearing in Scream VI. Her reported arrival would give the developing film a performer experienced in combining action, dark humour and horror, qualities that could suit Emma Frost’s shifting position between antagonist, ally and X-Men leader.

Marvel’s X-Men Film Remains Without A Release Date

Schreier, who directed Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, is attached to oversee the project. Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-creator Joanna Calo are developing the screenplay, but Marvel has not announced an official title, production timetable or cinema release date.

That also means there is no confirmed UK release date for London cinemas. Although the project has been widely described as an X-Men reboot, Marvel has not yet revealed the film’s full team, plot or place in the studio’s release calendar.

Deadline’s report said Marvel executives had been meeting and auditioning actors for several roles, with the search for Emma Frost receiving particular attention. Taken together, the auditions and reported selection of Weaving suggest that casting work is advancing, but there is currently no confirmed filming start date.

The film is expected to introduce a new version of the mutant team to the MCU after Marvel’s use of performers and characters associated with earlier X-Men productions. The precise relationship between those appearances and Schreier’s film has not been disclosed.

Who Is Emma Frost?

Emma Frost first appeared in The Uncanny X-Men #129, published on 10 January 1980 and created by writer Chris Claremont and artist John Byrne. Introduced as the Hellfire Club’s White Queen, she began as an enemy of the X-Men before developing into a prominent teacher, strategist and member of the team.

Marvel describes Frost as a powerful telepath capable of reading and manipulating minds. She can also transform her body into an organic diamond form, increasing her strength and resistance to injury while suppressing her telepathic abilities.

Previous live-action interpretations include Tahyna Tozzi’s version in X-Men Origins: Wolverine and January Jones’s portrayal in X-Men: First Class. Jones also appeared in archive footage used in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Marvel Studios has not confirmed when it will formally unveil Weaving or the wider cast. Until that announcement, the reported Emma Frost casting remains the clearest indication yet that Schreier’s untitled X-Men project is moving towards assembling its central mutant line-up.
